MANCHESTER, Tenn. (AP) — A former Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper is charged with misconduct after investigators say drugs given to him to train a drug-detection K9 disappeared.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Brent McCawley was a trooper and K9 handler assigned to Coffee County. Agents began investigating him on May 12 at the request of the district attorney general. He subsequently resigned his position with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

On Tuesday, the Coffee County Grand Jury returned indictments charging McCawley with three counts of official misconduct and one count of theft over $1,000. He was booked into the Coffee County Jail on $10,000 bond.

A phone number listed for McCawley rang unanswered Thursday evening.
