MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — Rutherford County Sheriff Robert Arnold and his family are uninjured after shots were fired outside their Murfreesboro home.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Lisa Marchesoni tells local media that someone fired shots outside Arnold’s home on Monday evening. No one was injured, but Marchesoni says the family was upset by the incident.

“The sheriff and his family were pretty shaken up, as you can imagine,” said Marchesoni. “It endangered people in the neighborhood.”

The Daily News Journal cited a police report filed by Murfreesboro Police Officer Steven Vajcner in reporting that Rutherford and his neighbors reported hearing multiple shots fired outside his home. Murfreesboro police officers and Rutherford County deputies responded to the scene and found six shell casings in the street while investigating.

One neighbor, Kelly Bates, told officers that she heard five or six shots.

“She immediately looked out her window and saw a light-colored four-door sedan back up and sit still at the house across the street for approximately 60 seconds and head down Osborne Lane toward Memorial Boulevard,” the police report said.

Another neighbor, Charles Evans, said he heard about five gunshots as he was backing out of his driveway.

“He immediately stopped the vehicle and looked around,” Vajcner said, but did not see anything and proceeded to drive down the street.

Marchesoni says both law enforcement agencies would likely step up patrols in the area.
